Lazy boy furniture for eco friendly folk

Now how’s this for a piece of furniture that is both cool looking, comfortable AND friendly to the environment?

The eco lounge chair is by Plug design, and has a wonderfully crafted metal frame that is constructed without fasteners or adhesives. Timber slats fill the frame, and wonderfully sculpted adjustable wool pieces inserted between each slat provide built-in cushioning. Genius.

The really clever part is that the you can customize the profile of the woolen pieces to provide a personalized fit to suit any shape or sized lazy boy furniture fan.

Lazy boy furniture that looks like footwear

How’s this for an oddity that would go down well and impress any fan of funky (although we’re not so sure functional) furniture, especially those with a lazy boy outlook on life who very often seem to wear canvas sneakers… As everyone here is just now!

Footwear Furniture

We’ve only found these sneaker seats available for sale in Japan, they retail for around $500 USD as far as we can figure, but if you can get hold of these, they could be the ultimate in quirky lazy boy furniture, and impress your mates. We’re not sure if they’ll be all that comfy though.

Lane Furniture offer a wide range of Lane Recliners to suit all tastes

In our never ending quest for diverse and cool lazy boy furniture, and in particular recliners of all shapes and sizes, we didn’t take long to stumble across Lane Furniture, and their vast range of Lane Recliners.

They offer contemporary recliners, but also retro, classic, and just about everything in between. They don’t have as many headline grabbing offerings as La-Z-Boy have come up with over the years, but they do have a good range of recliners and if there’s not something that takes your fancy then we’d be truly surprised.

At one end of the scale is the Marseille Hi-Leg Recliner, which offers a classic look and would not feel out of place in our grandparents home.

Another member of the Lane Recliner ‘classics’ range is the Julia Hi-Leg Recliner. With a flared back and bentwood arm with a natural finish, this is totally different in flavor to the Marseille, and has a very classic look about it, the sweeping arms of the chair are a real stand-out feature.

Then, at the other end of the scale is “The Rebel” lane recliner. The Rebel is a leather recliner with co-ordinated leather ottoman in the same plush finish. This is much more of a contemporary recliner, something that wouldn’t be amiss in many modern households, and it looks really, really comfy.

The Angelo Leather Essentials Recliner features a swivel base and reclining back, with the added bonus of a correlating ottoman. This is more sleek and simple than The Rebel. And the choices go on and on.

Lane Furniture has been around since the early 1970s, and have established themselves as a market leader and a strong competitor in the Lazy Boy Furniture market.

Floating lounger chair, science fiction meets the lazy boy lifestyle

A British firm has developed and released a new lounger chair that sounds like the stuff of science fiction. Forget leather la-z-boys, forget automatic recliners, forget gaming chairs… could this chair be the chair of the lazy boys of the future?

That’s right folks, “The Lounger” from firm Hoverit is a built to order chair, that uses the power of magnets to literally float on air. While the plastic construction may not make it the most comfortable looking chair, surely nothing could be softer and more relaxing than lying back on your lounger and just floating on air?!

The Lounger from Hoverit

This cutting edge piece of furniture does not come cheap though, costing around £6,000, with several options for customization, including different colour acrylics and finishes.

Steve Wild from Hoverit is quoted as saying

The Hoverit Lounger is British designed and built. It is precision engineered from clear acrylic and hovers through the use of powerful magnets, floating up and down on two guide bars to give the feeling of lying in mid-air.

Their tag is “Float away your stress on our unique suspended lounger” and this certainly is a very unique piece of furniture. Apparently there are more chairs to come in the range of floating furniture from Hoverit, and we’ll certainly be looking out for them here at Lazy Boy Furniture. Incredible stuff, and if you’re looking for contemporary furniture, then you wont get any more cutting edge than this!

This fantastically clever recliner features backrest heaters, so there’s no need to sit down in a cold leather chair, plus it can help relax tender muscles to aid the massage process of the chair the manufacturers also claim that a pulsating armrest vibration can improve circulation.

Human Touch massage chair recliner

The chair, as well as being a really clever massage chair, is sold as a really comfortable automatic recliner, which can be adjusted at the touch of a button. While being promoted on its health benefits, this chair is surely just a great way to relax in style while imagining the leather chair pressing the flesh on your back is your dream masseur or masseuse, now THAT’s lazy boy furniture heaven.

Lazy boy furniture for gadget geeks with limited space

We’ve previously looked at the Ultimate Game Chair, which is one of many gaming chairs available for lazy boys who like to spend time in front of their consoles, pretending NOT to be lazy boys!

We’ve also taken a look at the La-Z-Boy Broadway system, which is a great home cinema seating system for lazy boys who prefer to have the cinema come to them, rather than go through all the hassle of getting out and seeing films at the theater.

iMedia Chair

This multimedia chair, called the iMedia from company Empower Technologies, has bags of features, and also looks pretty comfy, which of course is a must. Features of this chair include integrated 15″ TFT Video Display on a swivel arm, integrated Logitech Z-5500 surround sound system, five phase-aligned satellite speakers, a powered 10″ subwoofer, 505 Watt RMS 6 channel amplifier, 5.1 Dolby digital, DTS , Dolby Pro Logic I Decoding, wireless remote control and digital sound touch control center. It even includes a 3.5″ touch screen which allows for control of iPod functions!

There are also a number of auxiliary inputs which allow you to connect other multimedia sources such as music, games of film players! This is one chair that truly seems to have bags of features for the technology geek. The downsides, it’s not a recliner, it doesn’t look overly comfortable, and there’s no mention of how easy or otherwise it would be to upgrade the IT components.

We’ll no doubt be featuring more chairs such as this in the future for Lazy Boy Furniture fans with geeky tendencies.

Lazy Boy Furniture for film buffs

So we were browsing the official La-Z-Boy website as we so often find ourselves doing, when we came across the Broadway seating system.

Broadway is one of many modular seating systems that La-Z-Boy have produced over the years, and it’s the kind of seating that only the most privileged of lazy boys can indulge in, home cinema seating!

Home cinema seating could quite possibly the ideal form of lazy boy furniture, however we haven’t previously featured it due to it’s quite exclusive and limited nature. This stuff belongs in your home cinema setup, and unfortunately for the rest of us, home cinemas are still not in everyone’s financial grasp!

La-Z-Boy Broadway

The Broadway looks superb, with so many choices and chances to personalise the chairs and ‘wedge consoles’, which can be storage compartments, drinks holders and tray tables all in one, heaven. Who wouldn’t LOVE to settle down in one of these fantastic recliners, with your favourite beverage and a ton of popcorn in the comfort of your own home?! Bring it on, PLEASE!

Bean bag chairs, slouching furniture ideal for lazy boys

So you think a recliner, in particular a big fat leather la-z-boy recliner is the perfect piece of lazy boy furniture?

You could well be correct, we’ve gone over the pros and cons of various types of furniture before, and the good old fashioned, or even contemporary, recliner does have a heck of a lot going for it. But they are big, sometimes cumbersome, and often expensive.

So what about lazy boy furniture for those on a budget? Enter bean bag chairs. Bean bag chairs are a fantastic invention, you get some material, stuff it with some sort of malleable yet comfortable material, and pass it off as a chair. But somehow, this ridiculously basic and seemingly simple piece of furniture can work wonders!

Bean bag chairs seem to be an ever increasingly popular type of lazy boy furniture, and not only are they getting better, they’re getting bigger. For example the Sumo Omni (pictured below) is HUGE and comes in a variety of colours, and highly rated by pretty much all who’ve slouched on it.

Sumo Omni

The advantages of this type of furniture are many fold, but the obvious ones are the cost, almost throw-away prices in some cases, the storage, you can rack them in the corner and bring out a range when friends drop buy, and of course the comfort. Overall bean bag chairs are an affordable and flexible form of Lazy Boy Furniture, and one we can recommend from personal experience!

Buying Lazy Boy Furniture online

Chances are you’re here because you’re researching your ideal piece of furniture, quite possible a recliner or automatic recliner, being the lazy boy you are, and you’re doing it online because, well, it’s just easier than getting of your behind and traipsing around furniture stores all day, especially as decent furniture stores can be few and far between.

So, you look for your ideas and inspirations for your perfect piece of Lazy Boy Furniture online. But be warned, all may NOT be as it first appears. It is our advice to consider online furniture shopping in a very similar way to how you would consider buying from a catalog, and if you’re considering purchasing from somewhere like eBay, perhaps via our own Lazy Boy Furniture Store, consider the situation very much like buying from free ads in your newspaper, but without the luxury of being able to feel the leather, test the recliner mechanism, or anything else before you part with your hard earned cash.

If you’re buying online from a recognized and well respected furniture store, or even other kind of established retailer, then you will probably have the confidence to buy online without worrying if the company will be around in a month when your seat cushions fall apart (not that they will, we’re just saying they might). But if you’re considering purchasing from a less familiar online furniture retailer, we would suggest you are more cautious. Legitimate retailers will not mind if you phone them first to check their contact number (not a cell phone either) is real, and they wont mind if you want to ask a few questions about returns policy and warranties.

The other obvious draw back of buying your Lazy Boy Furniture online is the fact you cant try before you buy. That contemporary recliner may look good in a quarter page jpeg image, but what if it feels cheap and flakey, or what if that luxurious leather recliner actually reminds you of the worst faux leather seats from the 70s?

This is how we would do it. Shop in real stores, get up off your chair and get your behind into lots of demo chairs at the high street, and even out of town furniture stores. Ask around, get opinions from trusted friends and sources you know you’ve agreed with in the past. When you’re confident you’ve found the seating solution for you, THEN you can always get back to the comfort of your own PC chair and start searching online for bargains.

You’re going to be sitting in your lazy boy furniture for some time to come, all being well, so it’s got to be worth the effort to get out there and try a few out before making a snap decision online. And when you do buy online, buyer beware, and you could get a real bargain.
