Contemporary recliners

For the discerning, modern day lazy boy.

When you think recliner, chances are you think of a huge leather beast of a chair, with big padded arms and a huge base that takes up about the same about of space in your room as a regular sized couch would do. Either that or the basically the same piece of furniture covered in a rich channel fabric.

But stop, it doesn’t have to be like that! Not that there’s anything wrong with your traditional reclining chair, we’re definitely not saying that, but some of you out there might want to try one from the modern, something more up to date, maybe something a little more minimalist or Scandinavian style. Well, that’s more than possible, with modern design and manufacturing processes, recliners are becoming ever more svelte and surprising.

Lafer are one of the most commonly found makes of contemporary reclining chairs. They come in a variety of shapes, colours and sizes, and brandish quirky names such as Billie and Bjork (who’s job is it to come up with these names?). The designs are pretty tight, many have fold away foot rests that neatly tuck under the main body of the chair when not in use, and appear as conventional seating, apart from the tale tale levers by the sides.

At the other end of the scale you have offerings such as Ikea’s Torekov recliner, which looks like a shrunken down leather version on their world famous Klippan sofar, however it too is a full functioning reclining chair in a modern, if slightly boxy, form.

So you see, there’s no reason for your ideal piece of lazy boy furniture to necessarily look like what everyone expects of a comfy reclining chair, there are indeed plenty of options out there, you just have to seek them out a little harder. That and be prepared when unsuspecting guests first accidentally discover the reclining position, while holding that lovely cup of hot coffee you just made them!
