Lazy Boy Furniture top tip: Check the warranty before you buy
This may be stating the obvious, but all is not equal in the world of seating, certainly not as much as in many other consumable areas such as televisions or other items of furniture.
If you’re looking to invest a pretty large sum of cash in a comfy new recliner, which you’ll quite probably be spending a fair amount of your time nesting in, if you’re a genuine lazy boy anyway, you’ll want to know the thing isn’t going to fall apart. You want assurances the leather or fabric covering wont disintegrate after a few nights of serious movie watching, and you’ll want to know the reclining mechanism wont fail, resulting in a horrible accident where you end up swallowed by your favourite chair in need of rescue from the next passer by, most likely dressed in nothing but your underpants.
The very strong indicator of quality is the warranty offered by the seat manufacturer. The longer the warranty, the better you can expect the chair to be. In general terms the most robust recliners will come with a full lifetime warranty for the mechanism and seat frame, and at least 12 months warranty on the fabric and filling. Some companies will offer an overall warranty of five, ten or more years. Again, the longer the better.
If you’re not looking for a short term, cheap seating solution and want a quality chair to spend your tastes comfortably parked in, then it’s probably best to avoid chairs with warranties under five years. But you pays your money, you takes your choice. How can you really relax if you’re lacking a little faith in the quality of the very object that’s supporting your weight?
