So you think a recliner, in particular a big fat leather la-z-boy recliner is the perfect piece of lazy boy furniture?

You could well be correct, we’ve gone over the pros and cons of various types of furniture before, and the good old fashioned, or even contemporary, recliner does have a heck of a lot going for it. But they are big, sometimes cumbersome, and often expensive.

So what about lazy boy furniture for those on a budget? Enter bean bag chairs. Bean bag chairs are a fantastic invention, you get some material, stuff it with some sort of malleable yet comfortable material, and pass it off as a chair. But somehow, this ridiculously basic and seemingly simple piece of furniture can work wonders!

Bean bag chairs seem to be an ever increasingly popular type of lazy boy furniture, and not only are they getting better, they’re getting bigger. For example the Sumo Omni (pictured below) is HUGE and comes in a variety of colours, and highly rated by pretty much all who’ve slouched on it.

The advantages of this type of furniture are many fold, but the obvious ones are the cost, almost throw-away prices in some cases, the storage, you can rack them in the corner and bring out a range when friends drop buy, and of course the comfort. Overall bean bag chairs are an affordable and flexible form of Lazy Boy Furniture, and one we can recommend from personal experience!

Chances are you’re here because you’re researching your ideal piece of furniture, quite possible a recliner or automatic recliner, being the lazy boy you are, and you’re doing it online because, well, it’s just easier than getting of your behind and traipsing around furniture stores all day, especially as decent furniture stores can be few and far between.

So, you look for your ideas and inspirations for your perfect piece of Lazy Boy Furniture online. But be warned, all may NOT be as it first appears. It is our advice to consider online furniture shopping in a very similar way to how you would consider buying from a catalog, and if you’re considering purchasing from somewhere like eBay, perhaps via our own Lazy Boy Furniture Store, consider the situation very much like buying from free ads in your newspaper, but without the luxury of being able to feel the leather, test the recliner mechanism, or anything else before you part with your hard earned cash.

If you’re buying online from a recognized and well respected furniture store, or even other kind of established retailer, then you will probably have the confidence to buy online without worrying if the company will be around in a month when your seat cushions fall apart (not that they will, we’re just saying they might). But if you’re considering purchasing from a less familiar online furniture retailer, we would suggest you are more cautious. Legitimate retailers will not mind if you phone them first to check their contact number (not a cell phone either) is real, and they wont mind if you want to ask a few questions about returns policy and warranties.

The other obvious draw back of buying your Lazy Boy Furniture online is the fact you cant try before you buy. That contemporary recliner may look good in a quarter page jpeg image, but what if it feels cheap and flakey, or what if that luxurious leather recliner actually reminds you of the worst faux leather seats from the 70s?

This is how we would do it. Shop in real stores, get up off your chair and get your behind into lots of demo chairs at the high street, and even out of town furniture stores. Ask around, get opinions from trusted friends and sources you know you’ve agreed with in the past. When you’re confident you’ve found the seating solution for you, THEN you can always get back to the comfort of your own PC chair and start searching online for bargains.

You’re going to be sitting in your lazy boy furniture for some time to come, all being well, so it’s got to be worth the effort to get out there and try a few out before making a snap decision online. And when you do buy online, buyer beware, and you could get a real bargain.

We reckon there’s probably four contenders for the ideal piece of lazy boy furniture, and in this extremely serious piece we’ll take a look at each of them and their pros and cons, we may even come up with a winner, who knows?!

Contender number one, the Sofa, aks couch. A piece of seating so popular they had to name it twice. The sofa is an ever present in most homes today, if people only have one chair, that chair tends to be a couch. Sofas are social seating, good for cuddling up on, good for sharing a pizza on while watching the sport on TV. In fact, a group of lazy boys stuffed into a couch, pizza and beer at the ready, watching their favourite game on the TV is pretty much lazy boy heaven. So the couch is a strong contender for the crown.

The downside is that they also attract women, this isn’t always a bad thing, but often you’re expected to ‘budge over’ or ‘make room’ for your better half when all you want to do is stretch out and relax in front of the box. So sharing your personal space, while often lovely, can also be counted as a mark against.

The Chaise Longue is our wildcard entry. It’s a chair for one, but the size of a sofa, so surely it’s ideal for your average lazy boy? However, there is one major drawback. They’re girl’s chairs. No idea why, they just air. You get them in hallways, and they come in more floral patterns than varieties of cow hide. Then there’s the poncey name. Girl’s chairs cannot be lazy boy furniture heaven.

The Arm Chair is another obvious entry. But an armchair is just a recliner with functions removed, or a shrunken couch, depending on how you look at it. Old people like armchairs, not lazy boys. So again, nice try, but in general, not a chance.

Gaming chairs must be strong contenders, you sit there wasting your time playing computer games, what more could you want in a piece of lazy boy furniture? Well, maybe comfort. Gaming chairs in general are like arcade machines with the capsule removed. Not great for lounging in. So close, but no cigar.

The Recliner. The recliner surely is the ideal lazy boy furniture. They come in all shapes and sizes, leather, fabric, they usually include a foot rest, and can even give you a massage. What more could you want?! The only downside is the room many recliners can occupy in your room, so you’ll need a bigger lounge if you want the fellas around to watch the big game together. But maybe it’s worth it anyway?!

So, we’ve established you’re at least a partially lazy boy, either your a little lazy, or a little boy, otherwise you’re probably not at the right site. Just what is your ideal chair? What piece of furniture was designed with folk like us in mind, what is indeed, the ultimate in Lazy Boy Furniture?

Surely the single piece of seating that springs to mind is the recliner, even the company after all lazy boy’s hearts, La-Z-Boy, produced the original recliner, so that’s got to be a match made in heaven?

La-Z-Boy were originally called the Floral City Furniture Co, founded in 1928 by cousins Edward Knabusch and Edwin Shoemaker in Michigan USA. The name La-Z-Boy was adopted in 1931 as a result of a contest between employees to come with a new name for the company, the same year that the cousins received the first ever patent for an automatic recliner.

Since those early days recliners have come in all shapes and sizes, but the basic concept remains the same. You sit in a recliner and all is well with the World, you lean back, the chair leans back with you, and somehow the World is even better.

While recliners remain basically the same in concept, technology and the World in general have moved on around them, the recliner is still suited ideally to all lazy boy’s seating needs. Reading, listening to the radio, television, satellite and cable, playing on your console… The recliner really can be the centre of any genuine lazy boy’s lifestyle.

But recliners are far from the only option out there, especially in Today’s market, so we’ll be looking at many more seating varieties at <a href="http://youlazyboy.com" title=Lazy Boy Furniture">Lazy Boy Furniture than just those you can’t help but sit back and relax in.
